The Brighton Mini Mile
The Brighton Mini Mile
The Brighton Marathon weekend is a huge weekend here on the South Coast of England. Runners and supporters stream into Brighton for the weekend, people fill up the city and the atmosphere is huge! Excitement is everywhere!
Especially on the Saturday at Brighton's Preston Park where all the budding young runners take part in the Brighton Mini Mile. This is an event for kids 7-17 who run the mile raising money for Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens. It's such a brilliant event to get kids outdoors and running and to support such a worthy cause.
This year the Nature Shop Kids ran the mini mile for the first time and what a fantastic day they had! What an amazing event for kids and their families. It was so well organised, so professional and you could see what a sense of achievement all those hundreds of kids got when they crossed the mini mile finish line.
Preston Park is kitted out with a mini mile village, huge live screen, fun activities, an aerobics team from local Brighton dance school 'Rox School of Dance & Drama', who warmed up all 18 races with a fun aerobics routine, and lots of food and outdoor activities to enjoy.
The way this event is organised is what impressed Nature Shop the most and what made it such a brilliant day. The course is all marked out and the kids are all safely contained within the course, which is needed with nearly 200 kids running each of the 18 races, and the hype and excitement for each race is so much fun for the kids and parents alike.
The aerobics warm up, huge 'Start' count down on the loud speaker, the live footage on the large screen and the presenter interviewing the kids after each race, makes this a really exciting event.
The bottle of water, goody bag and heavy 'proper' medal at the end tops this event off and makes the kids feel like a million dollars for entering and running the mini mile.
This is an event we will definitely be doing every year!
To keep the outdoor fun going, the next day you can line the streets with the thousands of Brighton Marathon supporters and cheer on all the marathon runners. This shows the kids what their running can achieve and what fitness and a healthy outdoor lifestyle is all about.
